Rechargeable batteries go on and on

Rechargeable batteries are those batteries which can be recharged again and again and thus they can be utilized to the best possible extent. The basic idea behind rechargeable batteries is that the chemical reactions which take place inside them are reversible and thus we can say that chemical reactions work in both directions. When the reactants are consumed up completely charging of battery is done in order to make the reaction work in opposite direction and as a result initial reactants are available once again. Rechargeable batteries are expensive but they are worth it.

Different types of rechargeable batteries which are being used in daily world include nickel cadmium battery, nickel metal hydride, lead acid and lithium ion battery. The working of all these rechargeable batteries is almost same but their composition and chemical reactions vary considerably. These batteries are available in different sizes and shapes. One can choose the type of battery depending on the type of appliance and its current and voltage levels.

The most important application of rechargeable batteries is providing electricity in case of power cut. This particular application has made rechargeable batteries very important. Other applications include forklifts, power tools, cell phones, golf carts and others. These days, rechargeable batteries are also being used in hybrid vehicles. Though this application is not that popular but it is very cost effective. An advantage of rechargeable batteries other than being economical is that they are very environmental friendly. It has been observed that a rechargeable battery discharges less toxic substances in comparison to primary batteries.
